Don’t Look Up

On my last day of vacation, I just watched “Don’t look up” a 2021 sci-fi satirical movie about climate change with Leo Di Caprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep.

The film is available on Netflix and uses the metaphor of an approaching comet that will destroy our planet, to criticize the apathy of governments, media, institutions, and persons (ourselves) about climate change. It’s an activist movie dressed in science fiction.

Even though the satirical rendition in some of the characters (for instance, the Cate Blanchett anchorwoman) appears not completely successful, the movie clearly hits its communication goals on science denialism and non-response to climate change. I liked it. With 111,03 Million hours of viewership in its first three days of streaming, the film seems on its way to becoming the most-streamed movie in many western countries, so my suggestion is: enjoy it.
